The other day I stumbled upon this blog for the nonprofit World War 3 Illustrated (WW3), which distributes semiannual political comics. On it I saw the following video of an interview with WW3’s cofounder Peter Kruper. In the interview, Kruper talks about his experience writing Diario de Oaxaca: A Sketchbook Journal of 2 Years in Mexico, which documents Oaxaca’s violent teacher strike of 2006.
What do these images say that words cannot? What is the role of comics/political cartoons as alternatives to regular journalism? As alternatives to photojournalism? Do you read any other political comics that you feel compelled to share here?
I’d love to hear your reactions. Comment below to add your thoughts!
